  1. Crofting fee

    Improved guide rates for homes.

The level of grant support available to help crofters build and improve their homes is to be a great deal increased, healthy environment Minister Aileen McLeod announced today.

From April 1 this is what year, Crofters will have the ability apply for up to under the new Croft House Grant Scheme and up to if they live in island and specified mainland communities.

After making plans for all the feedback and evidence, The three previous funding rates will be replaced with a new standard level of grant and a higher level for the islands and some mainland areas. These new rates are significantly higher and mean some crofters will be eligible for more than double the funding available under the old scheme.

The changes have been made following extensive consultation with the public and crofting associates.

Quality housing is actually important to help attract and retain people in Scotland most remote and rural communities, And to help crofters fulfil their duty of living on or close therefore to their croft.

Scottish Government Croft House Grant Scheme has invested million to build or improve almost 700 homes since 2007 and the changes I am announcing today will help ensure this support is fit for purpose in the a long time.

Am pleased to say despite on going cuts to our Budget as a result the UK Government continuing austerity programme we are dating a latina committed to continuing to provide funding for croft houses.

We need to balance how many grants with the level of funding available which is why each application will be assessed on its merits with support targeted at those most in need. I also intend to review whether the grant levels and geographical areas remain appropriate three years after the scheme comes into operation.

Review also revealed an appetite for the return of a loan scheme to help crofters build or improve their homes. This wasn among our original consultation proposals and so my officials are investigating the feasibility of introducing such a scheme as a separate good article. Commission leader Catriona Maclean said: CHGS provides important financial assist with attract and retain people in our crofting communities and also in helping crofters to fulfil their duty of living on or close to their croft. The Commission welcomes the revision in payment rates and the flexibility of the scheme to include home improvements and non croft land. This will make sure that the grant helps crofters in genuine housing need. Scotland Crofting Highlands and Islands committee chairman Sandy Murray, A crofter outside of Sutherland, claimed: The health and fitness of some of our more remote, Rural and remote island communities, It is in all our motivations to see a vibrant crofting sector that is fit for purpose in the 21st century. These positive changes to the Croft House Grant Arrangements are an important part of that process.

Are encouraged by the changes being brought in, Reflecting most of the requests that NFUS made in its submission, adding improved rates in some remote mainland areas; The creation of betterment plans; the necessity of crofts to be active and some targeting of funds. With recognition that budgets may be being forced, It is also welcome that the prosperity of the scheme will be reviewed after three years. Crofting Federation chief executive, meat Krause, said: Is a very welcome outcome from the writeup on the Croft House Grant Scheme. We have been campaigning for a review and for an up dating of the scheme in the past. The Scottish Government has conducted this meeting exercise in a very participatory and inclusive manner and has clearly listened to what we have said. Those involved are to be recommended for this.

Next part of this technique is to review, And develop, Reinstate, The loan component the scheme. We appreciate that this is not effortless but have high expectations given the process so far. Any functions that relate to statutory deadlines, Or which concern a Crofting Register form to notify the Commission that an event has taken place, will be presented priority over other applications. We would therefore ask that you to be able to contact us via email. You can of course use the mobile numbers on the Contact Us page of this website to speak with us.

The Commission understands that this is a difficult time for all concerned, But we wish to reassure crofters and their agents that we will continue to work to restore normal levels of service. It is unlikely that this can be fully restored until the government permits offices to reopen and for various restrictions on movements and meetings to be eased.
